Professional Disc Golf Association![]() From: 09/01/1997To: 12/31/2007I have been an avid player of disc sports since my teens. We used to play pick-up games of a strange hybrid of Lacrosse (hey back off, I was born in Baltimore) and Ultimate. We up-ended the lacrosse goals to keep the shots low and played under the lights at the local beach park. We played Guts on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland, attracting small crowds of curious onlookers. We saw our share of blood. I spent uncountable hours solo freestyling, and carried a disc everywhere. We also set up our own disc golf course in the field behind my mom's house. From there I went on to competition in the Novice division in about 1979. After a long hiatus in 1997 I bumped into another former freestyler while working at Nederland High School in Colorado, and caught the bug again. I quickly re-joined the PDGA and the CDSA (Colorado Disc Sports Association) and within 2 years had won or placed in several tournaments in the Amateur Division, and secured an invitational spot in the Amateur World Championships in Kansas City in 1999. I was sponsored by Wild Oats Markets, did rather poorly actually, and had a great time playing golf. I can however, tell me kids, that I was at one time one of the top 100 amateur disc golfers in the world. Not bad. |
