Below are links to a few works by Famous New Media Artist Jeremy Bailey, to stimulate discussion on "post-internet" performative strategies. Please watch the videos below, and contribute something to the discussion. Please reference the individual videos by name, so everyone knows exactly what you are talking about.

Full Effect 16:9

Here are a few questions to consider:
1. What is this person doing?
2. What does he seem to be trying to accomplish?
3. Is this innovative? Serious? Funny? Interesting?
4. What references (historical or otherwise) are made in these performances?

Metropolitan State College of Denver - ART4225 Concepts in Motion, Fall 2010

Course Description
In this advanced course, students will create a single solution for a complex time-based interactive design problem. Students experiment with notions of form, function and visual communication as related to the exploration of media applications. Emphasis is on process, concept analysis and development, efficient and professional pre-production and production. Students will compose and graphically articulate conceptual solutions to given problems and measure the effectiveness of solutions based on client/problem and or creative/strategic needs. Working in a team environment is encouraged in this course.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:
• Compose and articulate conceptual solutions which appropriately utilize motion graphics.
• Assess appropriate use of technology for a distinct design problem.
• Construct a conceptual framework, storyboard, or plan prior to conceptual implementation.
• Measure effectiveness of solution based on appropriate use of technology.
• Measure effectiveness of solution based on audience factors.

Metropolitan State College of Denver - Intro to Digital Art, Fall 2010

Course Description and Links to Resources

This course introduces the computer as a tool, and a terrain for artists and designers. It develops students’ visual language and provides an introduction to digital media as a place of convergence
of multiple media types, including image, and sound. We will approach these media as individual components through their historical trajectories from analog to digital production techniques, and also explore their contemporary potential via motion and interaction. Students learn to conceptualize ideas in artwork, navigate software interfaces and present artwork in classroom critiques. A variety of software will be used for this course. A variety of hardware will be introduced including graphics tablets, scanners, audio interfaces and digital cameras. We will also examine Free and Open Source software and hardware platforms, in concept and in practice. Developing your ability to execute the creation of digital artworks that exhibit technical proficiency and conceptual insight is the first goal of this course. A secondary purpose is to increase your understanding of how images communicate as visual language. To reach both of these goals you will learn the language of images and apply it to your art works created in this class and to those of others. We will accomplish this by making images thoughtfully and with purpose and doing some basic critical readings that will relate to our work. These readings will help in the evaluation and discussion of our creative work. At the end of the semester you should possess the necessary skills to go on to more advanced applications and concepts in digital art
making and other visual fields.

Learning Objectives

• Define digital art terminology.
• Acquiring and developing a critical understanding of the use of visual language as it applies to our
culture, political and social development, and artistic understanding.
• Discuss and utilize elements and principles of design.
• Recognize the relationships between art, culture, and technology throughout history.
• Familiarization with art movements through the design and
creation of new works based on ideas gleaned from these movements.
• Acquiring basic working understanding of image, motion and sound editing software, and the computer and related hardware,
through scanning, photo capturing, editing, compositing and outputting.
• Describe and discuss technical and compositional aspects of finished and in-progress work.
• Manipulate formal elements to convey meaning.
• Begin to articulate and reflect on concepts developed in artwork within the context of a written statement.
• Participate in group critique and evaluation of art works.

HyperTexture CD-ROM Magazine - Boulder, CO; Director

HyperTexture was the outgrowth of the Boulder, CO based arts publication "Texture Magazine". A volunteer-driven effort, this unique publication proposed an offering of over 30 minutes of audio material (music, performance, audio art) playable on any standard compact disc player. The audio submissions ranged from Croatian women's poetry, to music by Jello Biafra, to Japanese techno dance music. Of more interest to the hypertext artist were the remaining 350MB of information. This was to consist of feature articles, computer art, still images, animations and digital videos. The magazine has a strong emphasis on artists' resource materials, including information on grant applications and deadlines, and mailing lists of arts organizations and spaces. The project was supported by grants from the City of Boulder and industry leaders such as Maxtor, Syquest, and Macromedia. Although the CD-ROM never found a publisher, the project was successful in exposing artists and arts administrators to the potentials of computer-based multimedia publishing. See also Wired Magazine article.

A Virtual Classroom

In 1992-1993, working with school-aged kids, I co-produced an acclaimed “Virtual Classroom” which investigated the creative and educational possibilities of emerging technologies, including networked collaborative digital painting, a virtual puppet theater, thought-driven MIDI music, and on-line communities. The event was funded in part from grants from the Boulder Arts Commission, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District and with in-kind support from Eight Days A Week Media Center, and GW Hannaway and Associates. The one-day event was presented at the Boulder Public Library auditorium.
